Emotional Fitness classes

An Emotional Fitness Class is a 1 hour space for you to look after and nourish your emotions and feeling state as much as you look after your body and physical state. We clear at least one difficult emotion, and open and embrace one positive emotion

Emotional Fitness

At Emotional Fitness Classes you are offered an opportunity to slow down, quieten your overactive mind, and get in touch with your feelings, without the need to talk about them, share anything or expose yourself. All the work is your inner work. It is soft, safe and content free. During the class we do offer opportunities for questions and feedback and encourage engagement around your experience but if you choose not to share that is okay too.

An inner massage

An Emotional Fitness Class is like an inner massage. It is a taste of what Shape of Emotion can do for you. In the beginning, although it is simple, the process may feel odd and a bit confusing. As with anything new, this is absolutely normal. It becomes easier with practice.

What happens in a class

During the class we clear at least one difficult emotion, and open and embrace one positive emotion. Our emotions are constructed through our senses, socialization, education and upbringing. They are also layered. We encourage you to work with what comes up in the moment but preferably not a long-held issue like trauma or grief. These need time and more focused work. You wouldn’t try to run a marathon without some form of training and the same goes for this work. We start with the top layers and go deeper over time. That said, do not overthink it. Just work with what comes up. We will give you the cues and guidance as we go along.

Experience real freedom from difficult feelings

The class process

You will be asked to get comfortable by sitting on a mat, cushion or ball, against the wall if you need support, or lying down. You can change position whenever you need to. You will be guided to feel, find and describe a difficult emotion. Using specific touch points and verbal cues you will be guided to release and let go of the difficult emotion or to open and embrace the positive one. The aim of the process is to clear difficult feelings in order to put you in a more resourceful state to connect with others and life more openly and meaningfully. By expanding a positive feeling your energy levels, state of mind and general outlook will feel better.

After the class

There are different ways the Emotional Fitness Class and Shape of Emotion can affect you. These can include calm and peaceful, sleepy and wiped out, elated, full of energy and euphoric. In all cases the advice is the same – take it easy. Be gentle, quiet and supportive of yourself. During the first few hours immediately after the class, continuously drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, sugary drinks and refined foods. Also avoid loud people, places and situations.

When the body lets go too

Shape of Emotion works at a deep and profound level and on the structure of your feelings. On occasion, you may also experience some body symptoms relating to letting go. These can be: Burping; Coughing; Crying; Hiccups; Mild diarrhoea; Nausea; Runny nose; Rumbling tummy; Shudders or shakes; Sneezing.

It’s important to remember these are not side effects of the Emotional Fitness Class and Shape of Emotion. They are your body’s way of continuing the letting go process. It’s a natural thing and usually passes within a short time – a couple of hours or a day at most. These symptoms are an illustration of the beautiful, complex and unique ways we are wired together.
